This is pretty easy stuff to increase your opt-in rate quickly.
Instead of one opt-in box, use two
One at the very top before the headline, and one at the bottom.
Include a privacy policy right below
Promise them you will never give away, rent or exchange their details.
Introduce an exit pop up, give them a third way to opt-in. And by having an exit pop up, you are in with a chance to capture some of the people, who will otherwise leave anyway.
